Dear Friend of the IRR,

You cast your vote, the results are in, and South Africa's government no longer has a single-party majority. By this Sunday, 16 June, parties with vastly different ideologies and policy ideas must form a government.

The IRR has written to 16 of 18 political parties with seats in the incoming National Assembly to call for the Zondo Report to be placed at the centre of negotiations on the next administration of South Africa. Value-for-money must be prioritised over race – or any other factor – in public spending.

The state spends over R1.1 trillion per year buying goods and services. But often it spends too much money – it overpays when it could be buying things for less

Why value-for-money?

  1. It is the most effective way to combat corruption and state capture, as found by the Zondo Report.
  2. It is immediately actionable. The finance minister can ask any state entity to maximise value-for-money without delay.
  3. It provides common ground for a range of political parties who, despite their differences, all agree that state capture must end. We have sent our value-for-money call to all the parties in the incoming National Assembly except MK, which denies the validity of the 2024 elections, and the EFF, which has stated that value-for-money should be removed from public procurement.

This time of change and uncertainty is an opportunity for the IRR to put ideas that will make life better for all South Africans in front of the people who have the power to implement them. Thank you for supporting our work towards making South Africa the free, prosperous country we know it can be.

 Live Free. Prosper.
